Top 7 Movies That Feature Video Games
Table of Contents
We all love video games. The majority of gamers manage to find time for gaming every day. This has largely replaced watching movies as the top recreational activity. But there is a compromise. The movies listed below, featuring popular games, will have you putting your feet up and swapping your console for popcorn.
Werewolves Within
Werewolves Within has variously been labeled a mystery thriller and a comedy horror. Carrying over the central theme from the 2016 video game, a strange creature is loose in a small town, but the villain could be any group member that finds themselves holed up together in a snowstorm. Finn is the new forest ranger and is helped by Cecily, a town resident, as they try to keep the residents calm and determine who the monster is.
Angry Birds – Sequel
Despite mixed reviews, the sequel to Angry Birds is fun for adults and kids to enjoy together. While some viewers found it lacking in complexity, its humor saves this movie. A green pig urges the birds, including Red, Bomb, and Chuck, to stand with him against a common enemy. An ice island of hostile birds will launch an intricate weapon to eradicate life as they know it, taking out both birds and pigs. The plot involves a small group being selected and traveling to the island undercover to destroy the weapon and save their worlds.
Sonic The Hedgehog
Another family viewing option that keeps the laughs coming. Sonic The Hedgehog was generally well-received by critics. This was after a poor start regarding visuals that were vamped up before its final release. Ben Schwartz performs sonic’s voice-over. The credit for Dr. Robotnik goes to comedy favorite Jim Carrey. With a super-fast hedgehog in the starring role, the sheriff backs Sonic’s play as they search for his rings while dodging Dr. Robotnik and trying to prevent him from taking over as ruler of the world.
Tomb Raider
In Tomb Raider, Lara Croft is trying to find her missing father, an adventurer who was last seen near Japan at a legendary tomb on a fabled island. This Lara comes across as a mixture of vulnerability, spiritedness, and tenacity as she undertakes the dangerous journey to find her father. The movie does justice to the popular video game without copying it blindly.
Uncharted
Prolonged delays left fans of the Video Games stuck to their Lenovo RTX Gaming PC while they waited in anticipation for the movie’s release. But eventually, it made its debut this year. The movie did such a good job of portraying the game’s essence that fans would have been itching to play as they watched. There was some criticism of how Chloe Frazier was depicted, but Holland carried the movie despite some weaker characterizations.
Silent Hill
Although Silent Hill is sometimes awkward, it stands out for its horror scenes. It could hold its head up against other not-so-good game movies in the 2000s. In its genre, it did well enough though it may have failed to achieve the heights of everyday horrors. It has a strong cast that includes Sean Bean, who doesn’t die in this movie, a rarity.
Assassin’s Creed
For those who didn’t instantly love Assassin’s Creed, it is worth taking a second look. The movie has depth to it that is worth mining for. It tells of the eternal enmity between the Templar Order and the Creed. Assassin’s Creed also has a star cast that pulls it off wonderfully.
This short list should whet your appetite for more of the Video Games movie genre.
